The Foundation for Interscholastic Youth Athletics (FIYA) is a Los Angeles-based nonprofit organization that provides organized after-school sports leagues and competitions for elementary and middle schools (grades 3 through 8). Its core mission is strengthening schools through sports by offering structured, low-cost athletic programs.

FIYA is a 100% parent-run league. Each sport requires 1–2 parent coordinators AND at least one coach for the team to be established. If parent coordinators and coaches are not secured, the team will not be able to form and participate, regardless of player interest.

Parent coordinators work closely with the FIYA coordinator and coaches to help communicate practice and game schedules, serve as the primary liaison between families, coaches, and the league, and assist with general team logistics throughout the season. The responsibilities are shared between the coordinators, and support is provided along the way.

How to Participate in FIYA

  1. Complete Interest Form
  2. Volunteer to be a team parent (two is recommended to help split the responsibilities). Remember, regardless of the interest, if we do not get 1-2 team parents AND a coach, unfortunately the team cannot be formed.
  3. Volunteer to be a coach/assistant coach
  4. Once a team is formed (so, with team parents and coaches), the team parents will work with the FIYA coordinator to set up tryouts, establish the teams and practice days/times, coordinate carpooling if necessary, send out relevant practice/game time schedules, and collect all paperwork prior to the first day of practice.
